Nottingham’s Island Quarter will host a number of exciting new dining and entertainment destinations as part of the upcoming Canal Turn development. Opening in 2022, Cleaver & Wake will be headed by Nottingham-born Masterchef winner, Laurence Henry, who is cooking up an ambitious menu focused around modern cuisine.
With the branding and visual identity for the restaurant, I wanted to nod to the past while looking to future. The typography, imagery, illustration and colour palette balances the rich industrial history of the Island Quarter with the contemporary, elegant styling of the food and interiors. The wordmark was created by extracting and refining letterforms found in a map of the area dating back to th 1940s.
